VIN 2882 - The only Safety White 1976 Bricklin SV-1

1976 Bricklin SV-1 VIN 2882, the 2nd 1976 Bricklin SV-1, and the only Safety White 1976 Bricklin built.

For many years, in fact decades, VIN's 2881 and 2882 have been considered to be pre-production 1976 Bricklins. Until 2012, the best information I had heard was that VIN 2882 was Safety Suntan, but never confirmed. All that changed in the last half of 2012. VIN 2882 was "discovered" and acquired by Mike Paterson, and found to be the only Safety White 1976 Bricklin built. The first 1976 Bricklin VIN 2881, is the other pre-production 1976 Bricklin, and is the only Safety Red 1976 Bricklin. What a find !!!  Here is Mike Paterson's story of how he stumbled across, and acquired VIN 2882:

I went to a friend's place in town here (Stouffville) one day in August 2012 and when he saw my car (2724), he mentioned that he had seen what he thought was the same car, only orange, in the back corner of a used car dealership on Main Street in Markham, Ontario, about 15 minutes south of my house. I went to check it out and found the car, not orange but white, Vin 2882. It took about 3 months to track down the owner as he was the previous owner of the dealership but left 4 or 5 old cars there... outside... uncovered... for about 7 years so far (2882's drivers window was down the whole time thus the plant growing on the drivers floor). To buy the car from him; I had to also agree to buy a 1966 VW Bug.The deal went through and I have since sold the Bug. Hopefully, 2882 will be restored and ready for a pilgrimage to Saint John, NB (the original owner's hometown) in 2014 for the 40th anniversary of the Brick.

Editor's Note: Possibly 2881 and 2882 were Saftey Red and Safety White, as these 2 colors, are 2 of the 3 colors of the USA. 1976 was the Bicentennial Year for the USA, and there were no Safety Blue Bricklins. VIN's 2881 and 2882 were not considered to be part of the bankruptcy - see the Bricklin Distribution Page 2 page on this site for further information. Many thanks to Mike Paterson for sharing information and photos.

Drivers side interior as found

Note late 1975 - 1976 buttonless seats. Long time Bricklin owner / enthusiast Mike McCluskey has indicated, that he saw the car and rode in it during the early years, and at the time it had a 1976 center console. Seems to have gotten a late 1975 console somewhere along the way.

Console and seats as found.

Rear bumper and 1976 single exhaust.

Cruise control is aftermarket and will not be put back on restoration...

Speedometer.

1976 style "desert only" / "cooler" style dash plate.

No blue Hi-beam light. Perhaps due to pre-production '76, or someone changed it over the years to the red '74 - '75 style ?

Engine / engine compartment.

2882 lower front end with the later style '75 - '76 air scoop.

Right headlight open, and hood extension.
